    Babylon Rising - Christian fiction

    Babylon Rising
is the first in a new series by the Left Behind series author Tim LaHaye.  I should say the "popular" Left Behind series, which it was, even though I couldn't maintain my interest in the series long enough to reach the half-way point.

Looking for an alternative to some of the secular pop fiction I have been reading recently, I thought I would give LaHaye's new series a quick read.  As I mentioned Babylon Rising is the first in the series, and in my opinion, it is about average for its genre.

I did like LaHaye's use of re-telling the story from the Book of Daniel in the Bible through a 3rd-person action/adventure point of view.  Connecting Daniel's story to the main modern day plot of the book is a nice touch.  I enjoyed reading the story of Daniel and Nebuchadnezzar re-told as a novel, although this was only a small part of the book.

Overall, the story kept my interest enough that I read the next two in the series to see which direction the quality of writing would go, but in the end I know this book is going to go on the tall pile of literature I'll never open again.

Would you recommend Babylon Rising to other readers?
